Federal Government-ASUU Meeting Postponed till August 28 Amid Strike Threat
A crucial meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), initially scheduled for Monday, August 26, has been postponed to Wednesday, August 28. It was reported that Emmanuel Osodeke, ASUU President, confirmed the delay of the meeting, which had been announced by the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman on Friday, August 23.

While the reason for the postponement has not been disclosed yet, the rescheduled meeting is now set to take place on Wednesday, August 28.
The delay comes as public university lecturers are poised to take action following a recent resolution by ASUU’s national executive council. During a meeting held at the University of Ibadan on Monday, August 19, 2024, the union issued a strike threat in response to the Federal Government’s failure to adhere to the 2009 renegotiated agreement.
ASUU’s demands included important issues such as enhanced welfare for staff, increased funding for universities, and a halt to the proliferation of new institutions across the country.
