Fear of death: Ondo police officers reject promotion
Police officers in Ondo State have voluntarily turned down promotion.
Yes. The officer originally promoted to that post died the night he was informed of the elevation.
That’s the apparent reason his surviving colleagues are not interested in filling that gap, even if that means higher wages.
Usman Kadiri of Yaba Police division in Ondo state died in his sleep the same night he celebrated his impending promotion.
He was supposed to wake up the next day, wear his uniform, and step into the new office.
But that never happened.
“Kadiri was in charge of traffic control,” one of his colleagues said.
“On that faithful night, he got a message from our headquarters in Akure that he has been promoted to the position of a station officer and we were all happy,” the colleague said.
