Fake drug sellers get 6-year jail sentence in Anambra
A Federal High Court sitting in Awka has handed a combined six-year prison sentence to four traders accused of selling fake drugs in Anambra.
The traders who were initially prosecuted at the Federal High Court in Lagos before being transferred to Awka were found guilty of dealing in fake and substandard drugs that bear forged trademarks.
Each of the traders, identified as Ifeanyi Onuoha, Chukwudozie Eze, Anayo Okoye, and Okechukwu Nwafor, is to serve a year and half (18 months) in prison concurrently.
Presiding over the case, Justice Abubakar rejected the plea of the convicts’ lawyer, E. O. Ego who prayed for leniency in sentencing the offenders as they have families to cater for. He also pleaded for a second chance for his clients since they were first offenders.
The Judge went ahead to deliver justice by sending the convicts behind bars.
