Fake beggars feigning blindness, renting kids arrested in Anambra

Some women allegedly feigning blindness in order to receive alms were arrested on Wednesday in Anambra by task force operatives working with the state Ministry of Women Affairs, Social welfare and Children Development.

The suspects also allegedly used rented kids to bolster their chances of getting sympathy from the public.

One of the suspects claimed that the kids were brought to them by one Edith, an Ebonyi State native who is on the run, for N1,000 per day.

It was discovered that the kids being used by the suspects to do not know the whereabouts of their real parents.

The Commissioner in charge of the Ministry said that they may be victims of kidnapping or trafficking.

Some other fake beggars were discovered to always camp Army Barracks, Onitsha, with none being a native of Anambra.

The suspects were mostly identified to be from Ebonyi, Abia, Kogi and Imo states.
