EXCLUSIVE: “Lifeless” Nigerian-Irish woman found in Ikeja not dead – Irish Embassy
By Rotimi Akinola

An Irish citizen whose body was found lying on a street in Lagos is alive and recovering in a hospital, the Irish Embassy has told Newsroom.
Itunu Omoruiyi (real names withheld) was assumed dead by passersby who found her “lifeless” body at Obasa street Off Oba Akran street, in Ikeja area of Lagos, on Saturday.
A concerned Nigerian had taken a picture of the Irish passport found on her, and circulated it on Facebook.
The picture was circulated to “alert whoever knew the victim so they could come get her,” we were told.
Omoruiyi, who appeared to be a middle-aged woman, was thought dead at that time. Thank goodness she’s not.
The relevant authorities were able to step in at the right time and get her to an unnamed hospital where she is currently receiving treatment.
“The woman is not dead,” Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Ireland, Aoife Ní Fhearghail, told Newsroom, Monday, in response to an email enquiry.
“She is recovering in hospital,” we were told.
How Omoruiyi turned up “almost dead” on a Lagos street remains a puzzle.
Out of ethical considerations, we are refraining from publishing her real names.
Our thoughts are with Omoruiyi and her family.
Please get well soon.
