Excellence and Teamwork: The Gems from MTN’s Fireside Chat
“Excellence is its own reward” those were the rousing words of Leke Alder, lawyer, marketing consultant and versatile speaker, at the Fireside chat organised by Nigeria’s leading ICT company, MTN Nigeria, on Friday, October 25, 2019.
The Fireside chat, which doubles as a leadership conference, is designed to inform and inspire high performing employees across the organisation. Industry experts from various fields share their experiences in business and life with select staff of the firm. It’s an interactive session focused on leading a successful business in Nigeria.
The maiden edition themed ‘Making Excellence Ordinary’, held in Lagos, and had as guest speakers Sola David-Borha, CEO, Standard Bank Group, Africa Region, and Leke Alder, foremost Brand consultant..
Chief Human Resources Officer, MTN Nigeria, Esther Akinnukawe kicked off the event by sharing that the Fireside Chat was one of many initiatives by the company to support and equip employees across the organization to excel at work and become highflyers in life .
Sola David-Borha continued the pace by taking the audience through an array of issues on leadership, motivation, self-care, self-improvement and women empowerment. She spoke about her life journey and challenges stressing that everyone would face challenges in their lives, careers and businesses. However, the difference is always in how we handle challenges.
Narrating the high points from his career, Leke Alder focused on integrity, affirming that it is the most important ingredient to success and excellence. He opened up on the value of teamwork and collaboration, within and outside the company.
Members of the audience, punctuated each session with questions about what they had garnered during the chat. Attendees participated in an exciting game, inspired by key points of discussion, prompting them to bond, gist and swap ideas.
Akinnukawe closed the event by urging everyone to reflect on all that was learnt and to collaborate more across and beyond the organization, stating “we are good together”.
