Ex-Senator Galaudu Leaves PDP, Claims Party Is Now APC-Controlled

Isa Galaudu

Isa Galaudu, former senator representing Kebbi North, has announced his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), dealing a fresh blow to the party’s presence in the state.

Galaudu, who was the PDP’s governorship candidate in the 2019 election, confirmed his departure in a letter dated August 20 and addressed to Muhammadu Aliyu Danbuga, PDP ward chairman in Augie North. The former lawmaker said the resignation takes immediate effect.

In the letter, Galaudu cited recent internal developments within the party and what he described as the obliteration of the PDP as key reasons for his decision. He accused the opposition party of falling under the influence of politicians aligned with the national ruling party, a development he believes has compromised its integrity and direction.

“I write to inform you of my resignation with immediate effect as a member of the PDP,” Galaudu stated. “It’s obvious that the PDP is being controlled by politicians of the national ruling party.”

Galaudu’s exit comes at a time when the PDP is struggling to maintain cohesion and relevance, especially in the northern region. Known for his political influence in Kebbi State, Galaudu served in the Senate from 2011 to 2015 and later as Chief of Staff to the Senate President. He also previously sat on the board of Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto.
