Tinubu’s government is the ‘worst and most corrupt’ in Nigeria’s history – El-Rufai
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai has launched a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, labelling it the “worst and most corrupt” government Nigeria has ever seen.
Speaking to journalists in Katsina on Monday night, el-Rufai didn’t hold back. He accused the federal government of peddling propaganda, mishandling security, and stifling dissent, drawing a sharp contrast with previous administrations since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.
“This is the worst federal government in Nigerian history, and all the indices have shown it,” he declared. “This is the most corrupt and most intolerant government in Nigeria. This is the most lying government that depends on false propaganda.”
El-Rufai pointed fingers at the federal government’s portrayal of the security situation, accusing officials of painting a misleading picture to the public. “They lied that security has improved in Nigeria. They read out numbers of bandits killed, except the ones we know are the leading bandits,” he said, citing notorious figures like Dogo Gide, Mallam Abba, and Bello Turji as still active.
The former governor argued that the government has failed to address the root causes of insecurity in states like Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto, where local governments remain under the grip of armed groups. “And because you are in government you think that nothing would happen?” he questioned rhetorically.
In a political twist, el-Rufai hinted at a potential power shift in 2027, predicting that the Social Democratic Party (SDP) would dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general election.
El-Rufai’s comments came during a visit to condole with Katsina Governor Dikko Radda following the death of his mother. The visit follows a high-profile political gathering last Friday, when former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar led a delegation of politicians to visit former President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna. The group included el-Rufai, former governors Aminu Tambuwal, Isa Pantami, Achike Udenwa, Gabriel Suswam, and Jibrilla Bindow.
