Edo: Assistant Commissioner of Police allegedly shoots self dead
An Assistant Commissioner of Police, identified as Christopher Osakue, has reportedly shot himself dead in Edo State.
Osakue reportedly committed suicide, for reasons unknown, at his residence in Upper Sokponba, Benin on Wednesday.
He was said to have shot himself in the head with his service pistol. He left no suicide note.
Reports say Osakue, who played host to some youths in his area last Christmas, sent a woman and a little boy living with him on errand before he pulled the trigger.
The late police officer was said to be gradually recovering from a partial stroke he suffered a few years back. He was recently posted to Benin from Ondo State to be in charge of training and development at the state police command.
“A neighbour said she heard a gunshot inside the ACP’s residence about 5pm that fateful Wednesday,” a source in the area confirmed.
“She added that after the sound of the gun, a frightening silence engulfed the entire building.”
The state Commissioner of Police, Haliru Gwandu said Osakue shot himself with a pistol which was signed for at the Ondo State Police command before he was posted to Edo.
