DSS Denies Invasion of SERAP Offices, Says Only Two Unarmed Officers Were Sent

The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied reports of an unlawful invasion of the offices of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) in Abuja and Lagos, calling the claims “inaccurate and misleading.”

Yesterday, Monday 9, SERAP, in statement, claimed that DSS unlawfully occupied its Abuja office, while demanding to to meet with its directors.

However, according to the DSS, the visit was part of a routine investigation, and only two unarmed officers were sent to SERAP’s Abuja office, not an invasion as alleged.

In a statement released by the Service, it clarified:

“A team of two unarmed Service operatives were lawfully detailed on routine investigation to SERAP office in Abuja, which has sadly been skewed and misinterpreted as unlawful, harassment, and intimidation of SERAP officials.”

The DSS stressed that the visit was standard procedure and did not amount to an illegal raid.

“Such official enquiries and liaison are traditional and do not in any way amount to illegality or a raid,” the statement read.

The agency called on citizens to disregard the “false narratives” and reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and national security.

“The DSS restates its commitment to utmost professionalism in the discharge of its core mandate,” the statement concluded.
