Detained Okuama Leaders Sue Army, DSS, Claim N200m Damages
Two of the leaders of the Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State said to be arrested a month ago by men of the Nigerian Army, have sued the Army and the Department of State Services (DSS) before the Federal High Court sitting in Warri.
Neusroom gather that 6 of the leaders were arrested last month by soldiers and others.
The two claimants, James Oghorokor and Dennis Okugbaye filed separate suits through their counsel, Malcolm Omirhobo, Akpokona Omafuaire, questioning their arrest and subsequent detention without being afforded legal rights or being charged to court.
Neusroom learn that Prof. Arthur Ekpekpo, Chief Belvis Adogbo, Mr. James Oghoroko, Dennis Okugbaye, Pa Anthony Ahwemuria, and Mrs. Rita Akata are the six Okwuama leaders that were arrested by military officials between August 18-20, 2024.
The leaders were kept in unknown detetentions since their arrests.
The applicant, James Oghorokor, in Suit No: FHC/WR/CS/84/2024, is claiming damages to the tune of N100m.

The second applicant, Dennis Okugbaye, in Suit No: FHC/WR/CS/85/2024 against the Nigerian Army and two others, is claiming N100 million damages.
The applicants demand that the court declare that their home invasion by the Army and others without due process of law is unconstitutional and amounts to a violation of their rights and privileges to private life.
While also praying the court for declaration of the unconstitutionality of their detention, restrain of movement and right to liberty, the applicants are also seeking an injuction barring the respondents and its servants from further acts such as these.
