Despite Security Alert, 40 Killed in Plateau's Zike Community

Just days after a violent attack in Bokkos, a community in Plateau State, claimed the lives of 40 people, a midnight attack in Zike community, located in the Kwall district of Bassa Local Government Area, has left at least 40 people dead.

According to Human Angle, which spoke to Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, the National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Youth Movement (IYM), a local youth organisation, the attack took place shortly after midnight on Monday, April 14, and lasted nearly two hours.

The IYM claimed that the tragic incident occurred despite security operatives being informed of a potential attack.

The reason for the attack has been linked to clashes between herders and farmers. However, Plateau is not alone in the rising spate of insecurity in Nigeria.

So far this year, over 3,000 Nigerians have lost their lives in various attacks across the country, according to Beacon Security Intelligence, a security firm that tracks the number of deaths, abductions, and injuries in Nigeria.
