Dele Farotimi Freed After Meeting ₦30 Million Bail Condition
Prominent activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi, was granted bail on Friday by a Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti after fulfilling stringent bail conditions set on December 9. Farotimi had been arraigned on allegations of defaming Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Afe Babalola.
The court had imposed conditions including a bail sum of N30 million, the provision of three sureties with landed property within its jurisdiction, the surrender of his international passport, and an agreement to refrain from granting media interviews. After a week of meeting these rigorous requirements, Farotimi successfully satisfied the court’s demands and was granted bail today.
Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun, who presided over the case, also ordered Farotimi to submit his international passport and refrain from granting media interviews while the case is ongoing. The matter has been adjourned until February 13, 2025.

Farotimi, during his initial arraignment, pleaded not guilty to the 14-count charge brought against him by the police. Representing him, his lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, filed a preliminary objection challenging the validity of the charges. Olumide-Fusika argued that the alleged offences were not recognized under the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021 and urged the court to strike out the case.
