Dangote releases details of ‘$5m spent by NMDPRA CEO’ on his children’s education in Switzerland

Aliko Dangote, president of the Dangote Group, has alleged that Farouk Ahmed, chief executive officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), spent about $5 million on the secondary school education of his children in Switzerland.

In a paid newspaper advertisement published on Tuesday, the billionaire businessman detailed the allegations, stating that the amount covered the education of four of Ahmed’s children over a six-year period.

Dangote had earlier, on Monday, accused the NMDPRA chief of paying $5 million to Swiss secondary schools for his children’s education, describing the expenditure as an act of corruption and economic sabotage.

In the advertisement, Dangote identified the children as Faisal Farouk, Farouk Jr., Ashraf Farouk, and Farhana Farouk. He listed the schools they allegedly attended as Montreux School, Aiglon College, Institut Le Rosey, and La Garenne International School.

According to Dangote, the estimated annual cost per child—including tuition, accommodation, airfare, and upkeep—was about $200,000. He said this amounted to $800,000 per year for the four children, with total secondary education expenses reaching approximately $5 million over six years.

The businessman also highlighted what he described as the tertiary education costs of Ahmed’s children. He estimated that tuition, upkeep, airfare, and other expenses averaged $125,000 per year over a four-year period, amounting to $500,000 per child and $2 million for all four children.

Dangote further claimed that one of the children, Faisal Farouk, completed an MBA at Harvard University in 2025, with tuition estimated at $150,000 and an additional $60,000 spent on upkeep, travel, and related expenses, bringing the total to $210,000 for that year.

According to Dangote, Nigerians deserve to know the source of funds used by a public officer for such expenses, particularly at a time when many parents in Ahmed’s home state of Sokoto struggle to afford basic school fees.
