Dangote Petroleum Refinery Slashes Petrol Price to N970 per Litre for Oil Marketers

Dangote Refinery to Shift Fully to Nigerian Crude by Year-End

In a move aimed at easing fuel costs for Nigerians, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a reduction in its ex-depot price of premium motor spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to N970 per litre for oil marketers. This price cut, effective immediately, marks a N20 reduction from the previous price of N990 per litre, which was announced earlier this month.

The announcement, made on Sunday, November 24, highlights the refinery’s commitment to making petrol more affordable while reinforcing its role in the domestic fuel market. This price adjustment is expected to provide significant savings for marketers purchasing from the Lekki-based plant, potentially leading to lower prices at the pumps for consumers across the country.

Anthony Chiejina, Dangote Group’s Chief Branding and Communications Officer, explained that the decision was a gesture of gratitude to Nigerians for their continued support in making the refinery a reality. “This is to thank the government and the people of Nigeria for their support, and it complements the efforts already underway to promote domestic enterprise for the collective benefit of all,” Chiejina said in a statement.

The refinery, known for its state-of-the-art infrastructure, has also reassured consumers that it will not compromise on the quality of its products. “We are committed to providing environmentally friendly, high-quality petroleum products, and we will continue to ramp up production to meet and exceed domestic demand, eliminating concerns about supply shortages,” the statement continued.

This price cut follows a development earlier this month when the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) reached an agreement with Dangote Refinery to directly source petrol and diesel from the plant. Abubakar Garima, IPMAN’s national president, expressed confidence that this partnership would ensure a steady and affordable supply of PMS products nationwide.
