‘We’ve Exported First Batch of PMS to Cameroon’ – Dangote Tells Neusroom

Dangote Refinery Confirms Historic First PMS Export to Cameroon

Dangote Refinery, the world’s largest single-train refinery, has successfully exported its first batch of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to Cameroon.

This milestone was confirmed to Neusroom by the Group’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina.

“Yes, it is true,” Chiejina told Neusroom, without providing further details.

The export comes less than a month after a top official in the refinery revealed to Neusroom that it was exploring the possibility of exporting petrol to other West African countries.

The shipment was made possible through a partnership between Dangote Refinery and Neptune Oil, one of Cameroon’s leading energy companies.

Located on the outskirts of Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub, the refinery has a production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. It is designed not only to meet Nigeria’s petrol demand but also to produce a surplus for export.

The export to Cameroon is seen as a significant step toward supplying petrol to other African countries, as the refinery positions itself as a key player in the global energy sector. Moreover, the move helps decongest petrol storage at the facility.

It is worth noting that on November 28, Neusroom reported that Nigerians—whether or not they are members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN)—can now lift petrol directly from the refinery.

Since commencing petrol production in September, the refinery, owned by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has faced challenges, including hesitation from independent oil marketers to lift products.

With this successful export, Dangote Refinery is no longer solely dependent on the Nigerian market; it is now tapping into the broader African market for its products.
