CPC, Customs uncover widespread sale of poisonous rice in Akwa Ibom
The director of Consumer Protection Council, CPC and operatives of Nigeria Customs are carrying out a thorough exercise in markets, shops & warehouses in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The joint team of CPC & Nigeria Customs, led by Babatunde Irukera, CPC Director-General, were able to uncover widespread sale of imported poisonous rice.
Investigation revealed that the poisonous rice are smuggled into Nigeria in different stages of degeneration – washed, dried under the sun, polished, and re-bagged for sale to unsuspecting consumers.
Consumers are advised to be vigilant about the quality of food items they purchase.
