COVID-19: How Winners Chapel responded to government ban on large gatherings

While churches in Nigeria are complying with the ban on mass gatherings by suspending services to contain the spread of COVID-19, some, however, decided to stay open no matter what. One of those churches is the Living Faith Bible Church popularly known as Winners Chapel founded by Bishop David Oyedepo.

Normal Sunday activities went on as the church held a service at its headquarters in Ota, Ogun state where the government has banned large gathering of more than 50 people.

Neusroom monitored the service streamed live on the Church’s YouTube page and observed that thousands of worshipers gathered in the church’s 50,000 capacity auditorium where the service was held.

The congregation sang and prayed to God to stop the plague of the virus in Nigeria and across the world.

Oyedepo in his sermon titled ‘Winning the war against coronavirus’ said the wisest thing to do at this time was to run to God and pray to him to stop the pandemic because nations with excellent medical facilities were also in confusion.

“According to how we have prayed, the siege is over. The same way Ebola went away, this is going away. The same God that helped us that time is still alive, he will help us again,” Oyedepo said.

  • Is so unfortunate to see people who are meant to build a society now indirectly attempt to destroy it, obedience is better than sacrifice, respect those in authorities says the holy Bible
