Court sacks Kano PDP gubernatorial candidate five days to election
A Federal High Court in Kano has nullified the candidacy of the People’s Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate, Abba Kabir-Yusuf over irregularities in the party’s primaries.
The ruling was handed out in just five days to the governorship election in the state.
Alhaji Ibrahim Ali-Amin had filed a suit against the party on the conduct of the primary election, which he claimed was rigged in favour of his opponent.
Presiding over the case, Justice Lewis Alagua cancelled the election, citing that Ali-Amin ought not to have been ostracized from the process.
The judge ordered the party to conduct a fresh primary election to determine the flag bearer in the upcoming gubernatorial poll.
Responding to the ruling, the Counsel to PDP, Bashir Yusuf expressed disappointment over the outcome of the case, vowing to appeal the ruling.
If PDP fails to resolve the misunderstanding and present a legitimate candidate before March 9, the party will lose its chance of participating in the gubernatorial election.
