“Corruption is fighting back vigorously” – Buhari assures John Kerry battle will be won

President Muhammadu Buhari has told John Kerry his administration’s charge against corruption has been met with a stiff challenge, with corrupt persons deploying all cynical measures to frustrate his efforts to sanitise the system.

Upon assuming office in May last year, the president immediately made it clear ridding the country of corrupt practices is one of his administration’s major focus.

“Corruption is fighting back vigorously,” Buhari is quoted to have said at a recent meeting with American Secretary of State, John Kerry, on Wednesday.

Buhari and Kerry have met a number of times since the former assumed his role as president, and both men had another healthy discussion as they met again at a meeting on climate change, COP22, in Marrakech, Morocco.

“But it is a war we are determined to win, and which we will win. People of goodwill are behind us, countries like America and many others are with us, and we will surely win,” the president assured.

In the statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, Buhari also gave an update on his administration’s battle against insurgency, as well as efforts being made to tackle humanitarian problems arising from the insurgency.

Describing President Buhari as “a strong international partner in the battle against violent extremism,” John Kerry expressed satisfaction at the strides made by the Buhari-led administration, and pledged that the United State’s support of Nigeria in its bid to overcome security, humanitarian, political, and economic challenges is unwavering.
