Convoy Splashes Water on School Children as Tinubu Visits Benue Victims in Hospital
President Bola Tinubu is currently in Benue State, where he is visiting victims of Friday’s attack in Yelwata, which reportedly claimed the lives of over 200 people, according to some reports.
The President landed at the Tactical Air Command of the Nigerian Air Force base in Makurdi at 12:58 p.m. on Wednesday. However, circulating videos on social media show convoy, reportedly that of Tinubu, splashing water on school children who were made to stand in the rain to welcome the President as his convoy passed through flooded streets en route to his scheduled engagements.

Neusroom learned that severe flooding had rendered the Lafia-Makurdi Road—a critical access route linking Benue with neighbouring states—impassable. Commuters were stranded, and vehicles trapped in waterlogged sections following hours of heavy rainfall, which also complicated the movement of the presidential advance team and security personnel.

In anticipation of Tinubu’s visit, the Benue State Government declared Wednesday a public holiday to “honour” the President’s presence. However, some children were seen being splashed with water as cars passed.
According to a social media post by Fredrick Nwabufo, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Engagement, the President has visited some of the victims of the attack.

The President’s visit will also include a town hall meeting with political, traditional, and religious leaders, as part of broader efforts to foster dialogue and prevent further bloodshed.
