Coming soon! “Super Condom” will kill HIV and make sex better
The fight against the spread of HIV might just be about to receive a major boost.
In six months, a condom that can prevent the spread of HIV while also enhancing sexual simulation will be ready for testing.
Researchers at Texas A&M University Health Science Center invented the hydrogel-based condom as opposed to the usual latex-based ones.
Already, experts have identified the advantages of hydrogel over latex.
Some people are allergic to latex. It also contains natural materials which aren’t as effective in pregnancy or STDs. On the other hand, hydrogel doesn’t have those shortcomings because it is largely water-based. It is the same material contact lenses are made of.
Here’s the major plus.
The researchers embed a plant-based antioxidant known to have anti-HIV properties. Coincidentally, the same antioxidant also enhances sexual pleasure.
And that’s why it’s being called “Super Condom”
“We are trying to find how fast the enmeshed antioxidant can release,” said Mahua Choudhury, Ph.D., assistant professor at the Texas A&M Health Science Center Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy, “and we don’t know if it will automatically release, or if you have to apply pressure.” Testing for the super condom will begin within the next six months.
