Cleric kidnapped on way back from visit of late Sultan of Sokoto’s family
A cleric, Abdulaziz Yusuf, who is the administrative secretary of the Jama’atu Nasirl Islam, JNI has been reportedly kidnapped in Plateau State, on his way back to Jos on Wednesday evening.
The cleric was returning from Kaduna State where he went to condole the family of the late Dr Ibrahim Dasuki, the deposed Sultan of Sokoto who was buried on Tuesday.
According to Mr. Yusuf, a son of the victim, the kidnappers seized Abdulaziz along with his driver before abandoning the victim’s car around Saminaka, a town in Kaduna State.
Mr. Yusuf said the incident was reported to the police in Saminaka, but the police suspected it was a robbery.
“The kidnappers went away with my dad and his driver, they abandoned their vehicle, a Peugeot 406,” he said.
“The phone of the driver was also left in the car. This morning, I called the phone number of the driver and the police from Saminaka picked it. They told me that they recovered the vehicle during patrol. Right now I am on my way to Saminaka.”
The JNI, led by the Sultan, is a coalition of Muslim groups and organisations in Nigeria.
