Cholera Outbreak Kills 11 in Ebonyi State
An outbreak of cholera in Ebonyi state has left 11 persons dead, with 20 others hospitalized.
The Commissioner for Health, Moses Ekuma, confirmed this to newsmen on Thursday.
Ekuma pointed out that the outbreak occurred in Ndibokote village, Ezza Inyimagu, Izzi Local Government Area of the state.
The Commissioner revealed that among he casualties was a nursing mother of a nine-month-old baby.
He disclosed that the 20 other persons hospitalized are responding well to treatment.
Ekuma lauded the state Governor, Francis Nwifuru, for approving funds for medical supplies to curb the spread of the disease.

He revealed that the state have now situated emergency treatment centers at Iziogo health centre, Sudan Mission, Onuenyim and Ndibokote villages.
The Commissioner advised residents of the state to rush to these emergency centres the moment they experience “symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting.”
Data from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (NCDC) shows that 7056 suspected cholera cases, including 204 deaths, were reported from 36 states of the federation since January 1-September 1, 2024.
The data showed that age groups below 5 years were the most affected cholera cases.
Age groups 25-34 followed, with 53% of those been male and 47%, female.
