Shi Shi Chinese restaurant located on 21B, Emina Crescent, Off Toyin Street in Ikeja, Lagos has been accused of discriminating against Nigerians after it was revealed that the restaurant does not allow Nigerians to enter into or order food from them.
According to a report by Punch, the restaurant is guarded by a security operative who wears a combat camouflage and turns every black person assumed to be Nigerian away from its premises.
It was also revealed that the restaurant can only allow a Nigerian access if they’re accompanied by a Chinese.
Responding to the controversy, the Manager of the restaurant, Niyi Adegbite who is also Nigerian said that the claim is not entirely true as the restaurant has a policy of accepting only gentlemen and not every Tom, Dick and Harry.
Pressed further on whether Nigerians are allowed to patronize the restaurant, he said, “not really”. He disclosed that the restaurant has two sections, one of which is open to all customers and an exclusive section that is only open to Chinese nationals.
Despite his explanation, many Nigerians are still not convinced over the practice of the restaurant.
Some social media users have severely blasted the restaurant and called on the government to shut it down for disrespecting Nigerians in their own country.
