Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Meets Tinubu with Message from President Xi Jinping
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently meeting with the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The minister is expected to deliver a special message from Chinese President Xi Jinping to the Nigerian leader during the courtesy visit.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, arrived in Nigeria on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, for a two-day working visit. He was received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi’s visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties and review Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed during the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit.
“During his visit, H.E. Mr. Wang Yi will meet with the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON, for bilateral talks aimed at strengthening relations between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China,” the ministry stated.

The minister’s engagements also include discussions with Nigerian officials on trade, infrastructure, and other areas of mutual interest.
President Tinubu’s meeting with Wang Yi is expected to reinforce Nigeria’s partnership with China in key sectors, reflecting the outcome of their recent agreements at FOCAC.
