Cattle rustlers kill six, steal over 700 cows and goats in fresh Niger attack
Six persons have been reported dead in an attack by cattle rustlers in Kukoki community of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
The council’s chairman, Mark Jagaba, told NAN that four Fulani and two Gbagyi were killed, while several women and children were injured in a clash that lasted about four hours.
According to Jagaba, members of the community reported that the suspects, numbering about 50 and armed with weapons, stormed the community at about 7am shooting sporadically.
The attack which came barely three weeks after nine people were killed in a similar incident in the Kurebe and Kwaki Chukuba wards of Shiroro Local Government Area, saw the cattle rustlers steal over 700 cows and an undisclosed number of goats and sheep before fleeing the community.
Bala Elkana, the Police Public Relations Officer, Niger State, said that two suspects had been arrested in connection to the incident with efforts to apprehend other culprits already ongoing.
Peace has been restored in the area according to Jagaba, but he appealed to security agencies in the state to assist in checking cattle rustlers and put a stop to indiscriminate killings of innocent people.
