Cameroon Dismisses Rumors of President Biya's Poor Health as "Pure Fantasy"

The Cameroonian government has firmly denied widespread speculation about the health of President Paul Biya, dismissing reports as unfounded and calling them “pure fantasy.”

Concerns about the 91-year-old leader’s well-being have grown after he was absent from recent high-profile engagements, including a summit in France, which he was expected to attend.

Biya, who has ruled Cameroon for over four decades, has not been seen publicly since early September, when he participated in the China-Africa forum in Beijing. His prolonged absence sparked rumors in both mainstream media and on social networks, raising questions about his health.

In response, government spokesperson Rene Sadi issued a formal statement, rejecting the claims as mere fabrications.

“The government unequivocally states that these rumours are pure fantasy,” the statement read. Sadi further reassured the public, affirming that President Biya is in “good health” despite his absence from recent events.

This is not the first time concerns over the president’s health have surfaced. As one of the world’s longest-serving leaders, Biya’s age has often been a point of discussion, with intermittent reports over the years speculating about his ability to continue leading the country.

According to Sadi, President Biya, who has been in power since 1982, paid a private visit to Europe after the China-Africa forum in Beijing.

“The head of state is in good health and will be returning to Cameroon in the coming days,” Sadi said.
