Buhari, NANS, and the outrageous OAU student union budget, By Abdussalam Amoo

The South West chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) just awarded Gov Ibikunle Amosun “the Most Outstanding Governor” in South Western Nigeria.

If Amosun is truly that outstanding among others, it means all his colleagues failed. Why reward mediocrity? Wouldn’t it had been better no one was given at all?

In another development, the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Students’ Union Government reportedly released its budget for the next session.

It intends to expend N27 million but would be generating N15 million. Out of that, about N1.8 million would be spent on phone calls.

They’re exhibiting tendencies of extravagance and debt accumulation right from their cradle.

Back in the university, I recall that some student leaders misappropriated students’ association funds.

They were reported but their tracks were covered owing to their conspiracy with the Students’ Affairs Division of the university and some officials in the management.

Some of them were among those even awarded for “outstanding leadership” at the end of their tenure.

The fellows could be part of the next generation of our leaders in the country. It would be pathetic they don’t change their ways.

As much as we want Buhari to appoint the youth into his team, we don’t expect him to choose people like the aforementioned.  They are just a disgrace to the rest of us.

Their irrationality shouldn’t be encouraged. They are a set of unworthy young people. Perhaps their actions had informed why there are no young people in the appointments so far.

We still have young people with integrity among us. It’s up to the government to identify with them.
