Buhari, Saraki meet for third time in a week over $30 billion foreign loan

President Muhammadu Buhari is not relenting in his bid to convince the National Assembly to approve external borrowing plan of $30 billion to execute key infrastructural projects across the country between 2016 and 2018.

For the third time in a week since making his intention to secure the foreign loan known, Buhari has met with President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki behind closed doors.

The most recent meeting between two of the country’s most powerful men happened on Friday, November 11, following Wednesday‘s similarly “private” meeting.

According to PUNCH, Saraki joined Buhari for the Jumat prayers at the Presidential Villa, Abuja after which they both retired to the President’s office.

Senate initially rejected Buhari’s request for the foreign loan, describing the Medium Term Expenditure Framework submitted to it for approval as “empty.”

Saraki however labelled the issue of the foreign loan a work in progress after last Friday’s meeting.
