Britain to Send £225m in New Military Aid to Ukraine
The United Kingdom has announced that £225 million ($286 million) in new military aid will be sent to Ukraine for next year.
This comes after the visit of the UK’s Defence Secretary, John Healey, to Ukraine’s capital of Kyiv on Wednesday.
In a meeting with Ukraine’s Rustem Umerov, Healey assured that Ukraine will receive more support from the UK from next year.
He disclosed that the aid includes, drones, boats, and air defence systems.
While he hailed Ukraine for going toe to toe with Russia in the latter’s invasion, he noted that they still cannot “go alone” in the war.
Healey stressed that Britain will stand “shoulder to shoulder to ensure Putin cannot win.”
The UK defence ministry, in a statement, explained that the aid covers £92 million for equipment to aid Ukraine’s navy, including small boats, reconnaissance drones, and uncrewed surface vessels.

It explained, also, that £68 million has been set aside for air defence equipment, including radars, and 1,000 counter-drone electronic warfare systems at a cost of £39 million.
“With Putin resorting to sending as many as 2,000 Russian soldiers to their deaths on the battlefield each day, it is critical that Ukraine is supported with a supply of properly trained and equipped soldiers,” the statement read.
The Defense Secretary also stated that there was the likelihood of British troops joing in the Ukrainian war effort.
In his reaction, Umerov expressed the gratitude of Ukraine for Britain’s gesture.
According to him, the “stable delivery of ammunition, especially for artillery, is critically important for our defence efforts.”
