BREAKING: UNILAG students protests after First Class colleague gets electrocuted
By Kelechi Amakoh
A First Class Accounting student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) was electrocuted Tuesday night.

Oluchi Anekwe was reportedly returning from a Christian fellowship in the rain when a high tension cable cut loose from a pole and struck her to death.
Oluchi was a 300-Level student of Accounting.
Her colleagues are not taking her tragic passing lightly.

The students say the tragedy would not have happened if the school authorities had taken steps to fix electric cable issues on its Akoka campus.
Many students occupied UNILAG Senate House, Wednesday morning, to express their displeasure at the incident.
“The Dean of Student Affairs (DSA) Prof. Tunde Babawale and his deputies had to beg the students to leave the Senate House,” a source told Newsroom on Wednesday morning.
“I heard them making phone calls to student union (ULSU) leaders to come help placate the protesting students.”
“The DSA really looked distressed,” our source said.

ULSU spokesperson Charles Kunle Adegunnoye told Newsroom correspondent “we are all heading towards the (main) gate,” a place which has played host to unforgettable UNILAG protests.
ULSU had issued a statement early Wednesday banning all academic and social activities on campus.

“We hereby declare that all academic and social activities of the school and of the students are hereby suspended for today and no unnecessary sound around the campus in honour of the lost soul,” the statement read.
Students who defied the ban by studying their books in the school’s main library were chased out by colleagues believed to be acting on ULSU’s directives.
It remains unclear whether ULSU is planning to placate the aggrieved students, or join them in taking a stand against the school.
