Boko Haram, others with “fanatical belief in God” may trigger World War III, Italian President Mattarella warns
The deadly activities of Boko Haram in Nigeria’s northeast, among other things, may lead to the outbreak of another global war, Italian President Sergio Mattarella has warned.
Boko Haram terrorists, who claim to be messengers of Muslims’ Allah, said they want to convert Nigeria into an Islamic Caliphate.

Their claims to Islam has been denounced by many Islamic scholars who point out that terrorism has no place in Islam. They say the sect is made up of blood thirsty religious extremists at best.
Mattarella said this kind of “fanatical belief in God” may tear the whole world apart if nothing is done to halt its spread.

Mattarella said the activities of religious extremists in the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and Africa may soon plunge the entire world into the dreaded Third World War.
“It is our responsibility to stop it,” Mattarella said in a message to the influential lay Catholic activist group Comunione e Liberation (Communion and Liberation, CL), which is holding its annual meeting in Rimini.
He sent the message on Wednesday.
The Italian President also issued a strong call for migrants to be treated with humanity and kindness.
He said that would be the only way democratic countries could prove that democracy works.
“The humanity we show in receiving desperate refugees, the intelligence with which we face migratory phenomena, and the firmness with which we fight human traffickers will be the way we show the world the quality of democratic life,” said the Italian president.
