Over 200 violent deaths recorded in Nigeria in the last 5 days
The accumulated violent deaths recorded in the last five days of the new year has risen according to online and offline reports.
Newsroom hereby gives a statistic of the notable incidents among the number of deaths recorded so far in the new year.
Murder of a traditional ruler with his pregnant wife:
Some daredevil criminals suspected to be cult members reportedly opened fire and shot sporadically on some worshippers who were returning from a crossover service where they must have thanked God for enabling them to survive 2017.
50 people reportedly killed in Benue by Fulani herdsmen:
Suspected Fulani herdsmen who have been having running battles with farmers across the country also decided to strike at the belly part of the nation in Benue State. And for two days, Monday, January 1 to Tuesday, January 2, 2018, about 50 people were reportedly killed while 30 others were inflicted with varying degrees of injuries by these suspected Fulani herdsmen who were obviously venting their anger on the anti-open-grazing law that the Benue State Government recently promulgated to prevent cattle grazing on the farmlands of farmers which usually led to destruction of crops.
A pregnant woman was killed and the unborn child removed and slaughtered:
According to an online report, the Benue State Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Abba Yaro, narrated how a pregnant woman was killed, got the unborn child removed and yet slaughtered it.
As the 2019 general elections draw closer. it portends a grave danger for the conduct of free and fair elections and proper management of a possible post-election crisis if these unwanted acts of violence isn’t checked
