Binance Executive to Learn Bail Decision in October After Eight Months in Detention
On October 9, Tigran Gambaryan, head of Binance’s financial compliance, who has been in detention in Nigeria since February 2024, will learn whether he will be released on bail or remain in custody.
This was announced by Justice Emeka Nwete of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, September 4, after hearing arguments from both Gambaryan’s lawyer and a state prosecutor.
Gambaryan and Nadeem Anjarwalla were arrested on February 28 after Binance’s conflict with the Nigerian government. While Anjarwalla escaped custody, Gambaryan has remained in custody and was later remanded in Kuje prison.
However, Gambaryan’s lawyer is arguing that his client’s health has deteriorated and that he needs to undergo surgery outside of prison.
Justice Nwete stated that she will make a ruling on the plea on October 9, which will determine whether Gambaryan will be released on bail or if he will remain in custody.
Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, ceased operations in Nigeria in March after being accused of tax evasion and currency manipulation.
