Biden Slams Trump, Praises Kamala Harris in DNC Keynote Speech

Biden's DNC Keynote Address Slams Trump, Heaps Praise on Kamala Harris

At the 2024 Democratic Convention (DNC), which kicked off on Monday, August 5, in Chicago, President Joe Biden delivered the keynote speech.

Joe Biden, whose intention to seek reelection took a dramatic downward spiral after the first Presidential debate with Donald Trump, appeared more coherent and audible as he addressed the crowd, who repeatedly interrupted him with electrifying cheers and applause.

For nearly 50 minutes, Joe Biden recounted his political career, his achievements, and predictably took swings at Trump while praising his Vice President, Kamala Harris.

“You cannot say you love your country only when you win,” the 81-year-old said, throwing a jab at Trump, who has repeatedly claimed that the 2020 election, which saw him lose the White House, was rigged.

But the President, who would be out of the White House by January 15, spent the better part of his speech recounting his achievements and heaping praise on his Vice President.

“As your president, I’ve been determined to keep America moving forward, not going back. To stand against hate and violence in all its forms, to be a nation where we not only live with but thrive on diversity, demonizing no one, leaving no one behind, and becoming the nation we profess to be,” he said.

Joe Biden on His Achievements

He claimed that his four years as president have recorded extraordinary success.

“Because of you — and I’m not exaggerating — because of you, we’ve had one of the most extraordinary four years of progress ever, period. And when I say we, I mean Kamala and me,” he added.

Biden took direct aim at former President Donald Trump, saying in part that Trump has “never built a damn thing.”

“Folks, how can we have the strongest economy in the world without the best infrastructure in the world? Donald Trump promised infrastructure week every week for four years, and he never built a damn thing,” Biden said.

On climate change, President Biden claimed that his administration passed the most significant climate change legislation in the history of mankind.

Referring to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which was passed into law by his administration in August of 2022, a bill that proposed $369 billion in funding for clean energy, electric vehicles, and energy efficiency, Biden claimed that over 500,000 electric car charging stations have been installed all across America.

However, Neusroom found that only 180,579 electric vehicle charging ports located in 66,219 stations are available in America.

On education, Joe Biden asked the ready-to-respond crowd, “How could we build the best education system in the world without the best education infrastructure?”

Praise for Kamala Harris

President Biden, who was allegedly asked to reconsider his reelection bid by key Democrats, claimed that the best decision he’s made as a politician was choosing Harris as Vice President, adding that they’ve since become friends.

“She’ll be a president respected by world leaders because she already is. She’ll be a president we can all be proud of, and she will be a historic president who puts her stamp on America’s future,” he said.

Biden would ask Americans to vote for Harris, a former US prosecutor, to help keep the crime rate in the country low, rather than Donald Trump, who has been convicted of 34 felony charges.

“Trump continues to lie about crime, like everything else,” Biden said, adding that the crime rate in America has fallen during his administration. “And crime will keep falling when we put a prosecutor in office rather than a convicted felon.”

President Biden said he harbors no ill will toward other Democrats who demanded he drop out of the 2024 race.

“I love the job, but I love my country more. And we need to preserve our democracy. In 2024, we need you to vote. We need you to keep the Senate. We need to take back our House of Representatives. And we need to prevent Donald Trump from returning to the White House by electing Kamala Harris as our next President.”
