Bandits reportedly kidnap over 100 villagers in Zamfara

Armed bandits have reportedly attacked Wanke village near Gusau, Zamfara State capital. The armed men are believed to have kidnapped more than 100 villagers, women, children, and elderly ones included.

A survivor broke this news to BBC Hausa in an interview. The Chief Imam of the community was also among those said to be kidnapped. The Imam, only recently, regained his freedom from a similar kidnap.

According to the survivor, fear reigns supreme in the community as its residents are fleeing to Gusau, the state capital.

While the survivor gave the figures of those kidnapped as 50 in Sabon Layi and another 50 in Dogon Hayi, they could not, however, give a precise number altogether.

Villages such as Gira, Ruwa Kusa, Dogon Hayi, and Gidan Kado were among the targets.

Motorcycles, farm produce and food items from shops were said to have been stolen by the bandits.

“The attackers chased us like prey. They pursued people on motorcycles, tracked down women in their homes, and kidnapped them. Some were caught while trying to escape and were dragged into the bush,” the survivor said.

The Police and other relevant authorities are yet to comment on the recent development.
