Bags of rice smuggled as corpses in ambulance

The mobile patrol team leader, Chief Superintendent of Customs, Mr. Ozah M and his team apprehended smugglers operating at the Badagry-Seme border who tried to deceive operatives of the Nigeria Customs by packaging smuggled rice as dead bodies.
Mr. Ozah M., said the team noticed the frequency with which the said ambulance was patronising the international route with the ‘dead body,’ a development they thought was becoming alarming. They stopped the ambulance, a Volvo with number plates DV 74 EKY, for proper examination.
During the examination, 11 bags of imported rice were discovered and they were carefully arranged and wrapped as a corpse.
The suspect is still undergoing investigation for possible prosecution.
Confirming the recent trend, Mr Selechang Taupyen, the spokesperson, Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Command on Thursday warned smugglers to desist from such habit, adding that all smuggling antics along the borders would not go undetected by its officers and men on patrol.
