Awkward: Poisonous snake welcomes Fashola on first day in court
By Our Reporter
It was Akeem Fashola’s first day in office as the new magistrate of a Lagos court; and he did not expect to be welcomed by a serpent.
But, hey, things happen.
The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Monday at a court premises devoid of bush, reports say.
“We are really shocked because no one could explain how the snake entered the chambers,” a court staff said.
Some of the people who had business to do at the court said the snake probably crawled in from the “bushy” international airport which borders the court.
“Oga was in the office and he had sat down for some time,” a staff of the magistrate court retold the story.
“He stood up and went into the toilet to allow the cleaner continue sweeping when she got close to his seat. It was the cleaner’s scream that attracted all our attention. She said as she was sweeping, her broom swept something that was heavy.
“And she looked up and realised it was a green snake. And the snake at the same time, skipped to the other side of the office, near the cabinets, where it hid.
“It was at the point that we came in and killed the snake.”
Magistrate Akeem Fashola was unhurt.
