Aviation minister claims airline operators would shun imported fuel for Dangote products
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, claims airline operators in Nigeria have taken a joint decision to stop buying imported fuel and switch to patronizing the Dangote refinery.
Keyamo said this in a live broadcast on Channels Television on Tuesday.
According to him, the decision to start buying from Dangote Refinery was reached in a recent meeting of stakeholders in the aviation sector.
The move, he says, is aimed at curbing dependence on imported fuels and boosting the local market.
“Incidentally, it also coincides at a point when Dangote Refinery is coming on, and they are about to start producing Jet A1 for our local industry. The airline operators of Nigeria recently met. And let me give you this expo, I am sure they have not released this to Nigerians.
“They have made a clear decision, all of them. They no longer buy imported fuel to also support the local industry, the Dangote Refinery. This is the decision of the Airline Operation of Nigeria, with my push that they should be buying from Dangote Refinery,” Keyamo said.
As mandated by President Bola Tinubu, the sale of crude oil is set to be transacted in Naira.
