Armed Forces winning war against terrorism, banditry – Tinubu
President hails security personnel as peace returns to liberated communities in North-West, North-East
President Bola Tinubu praised Nigeria’s armed forces and security agencies for “working tirelessly and making significant sacrifices” to combat terrorism, banditry, and violent crimes across the country.
In his 65th Independence Day address, the president declared that security personnel are “winning the war against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes,” with victories evident in operations against Boko Haram in the North-East, IPOB/ESN in the South-East, and banditry and kidnapping across affected regions.
“We see their victories in their blood and sweat to stamp out Boko Haram Terror in North-East, IPOB/ESN terror in South East and banditry and kidnapping,” Tinubu stated, calling on Nigerians to continue to celebrate their gallantry and salute their courage on behalf of a grateful nation.
The president reported that peace has returned to “hundreds of our liberated communities in North-West and North-East, and thousands of our people have returned safely to their homes” following successful security operations.
Tinubu linked improved security directly to economic performance, noting that oil production rebounded to 1.68 million barrels per day from barely one million in May 2023 due partly to improved security in the Niger Delta alongside new investments and better stakeholder management.
The president emphasised that the administration is “working diligently to enhance national security, ensuring our economy experiences improved growth and performance,” recognising that economic development cannot occur without a secure environment for investment and production.
