APC wins five of six chairmanship seats as PDP takes Gwagwalada in FCT polls
The All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded a sweeping victory in Saturday’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council elections, clinching five of the six chairmanship seats across the nation’s capital.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured victory in only one council Gwagwalada.
In Gwagwalada, PDP candidate Mohammed Kasim defeated the APC’s Yahaya Shehu after polling 22,165 votes against Shehu’s 17,788.
The APC maintained its dominance in Bwari, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Kwali, Abaji, and Kuje.
In AMAC, incumbent chairman Christopher Maikalangu of the APC retained his seat with 40,295 votes. Moses Paul of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) placed second with 12,109 votes, while the PDP trailed with 3,398 votes.
Joshua Ishaku of the APC won in Bwari, securing 18,466 votes. The ADC garnered 4,254 votes, while the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) polled 3,515 votes to finish third.
In Kwali, APC candidate Daniel Nuhu emerged victorious with 17,032 votes, defeating the PDP, which secured 8,575 votes.
Similarly, Umar Abdullahi Abubakar, the incumbent APC chairman in Abaji, was re-elected after polling 15,535 votes, ahead of the PDP’s 4,547 votes.
In Kuje, the APC’s Danjuma Samuel won with 17,269 votes, narrowly defeating PDP candidate Zakwoyi Danlami, who scored 15,824 votes.
The ADC, positioning itself as a coalition platform for opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections, failed to secure any chairmanship seat in the FCT polls, marking an early setback in its bid to establish electoral strength.
