Even APC Is Involved in Coalition to Stop Tinubu’s Second Term – Atiku
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has claimed that even the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is part of a planned political coalition to stop President Bola Tinubu from securing a second term in 2027.
Atiku made the revelation on Thursday while addressing a delegation of stakeholders from Kogi East Senatorial Zone led by former Deputy Governor Simon Achuba at his Abuja residence.
“We are forming a coalition, all major political parties, including the APC, the PDP, and the Labour Party, are involved. This is the only way forward to confront such an incompetent and inefficient government,” Atiku said. “I assure you of my understanding and full support.”
His comments come at a time when his own party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is losing ground politically. In recent weeks, a wave of defections has rocked the PDP at both national and state levels. In Delta State, for instance, the entire PDP structure — including former governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who was Atiku’s running mate in 2023, and the current Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori— has aligned with the APC.
Both the PDP and the Labour Party (LP) are also grappling with internal crises that have weakened their opposition roles.
Despite these challenges, Atiku is pushing forward with efforts to form a united political front against President Tinubu’s administration, which he accuses of incompetence and negligence in addressing insecurity.
“How can leaders remain indifferent while their citizens are being killed? Such apathy is the height of irresponsibility,” Atiku said, citing his own experience tackling Boko Haram in 2002. “There is a lack of political will.”
