APC Endorses Tinubu as Sole Presidential Candidate for 2027
Hours after governors from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) cast a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu, the party has officially endorsed the former Lagos Governor to run for a second term in the 2027 presidential election as the sole candidate of the party.
Abdullahi Ganduje, National Chairman of the APC, made the declaration during a national summit held at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja, on Thursday, after the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, appealed for the party to adopt Tinubu as its sole candidate because of how he has delivered so far for the Nigerian people.
“On behalf of the National Working Committee, I hereby affirm the various endorsements and declare President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate of the APC,” Ganduje said.
The endorsement comes just days before the second anniversary of Tinubu’s assumption of office. Although the election is still two years away, the political climate in Africa’s most populous country is already heating up.
In the past few weeks, there have been massive defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party, the two main opposition parties, to the APC. However, despite the internal strife in the opposition parties, they are trying to form a coalition capable of stopping Tinubu from winning the next election.
