APC confident of Tinubu’s 2027 presidential election victory
The All Progressives Congress party has sent a strong warning to other political parties ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The statement comes just after incumbent US vice president, Kamala Harris lost out to Trump in the presidential race.
Reacting to the development, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifo stated that the US election which was closely monitored world-wide is an epitome of true democracy.
still speaking, Ifoh further stated that the US voters paid no attention to the power of incumbency and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to borrow a leaf from the US polls.
According to him, the power of incumbency is a ‘big deal’ in Africa, and specifically Nigeria’s, election system.
Ladipo Johnson, spokesman for the New Nigeria Peoples Party in his statement said that the US electoral system even with its complexity has been upheld for a long time.
He further believes that the era of using the power of incumbency and security agencies to intimidate opposition and their followers should come to an end.
APC National Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim while responding voiced out that the electoral process used in Nigeria and that of the US varies, so opposition should not get too excited.
Ibrahim said that the opposition are getting it wrong on the power of incumbency in Nigeria, in his explanation, he cited the 2015 election where Buhari defeated the incumbent president then, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
He noted that when the people speak with “one voice”, the power of incumbency is non-existent.
The spokesman expressed conviction that by the time Nigerians begin to harvest the reward of the economic reforms put in place by the president, they would applaud and urge him to continue.
Ibrahim criticised opposition, stating that they should instead be focused on the leadership crisis in their party instead of fighting to rule, thereby destroying the legacy and hardwork of president Tinubu.
He expressed “With the way and manner this administration of APC is working assiduously, bringing in new reforms and changes that are painful initially, we will reap the gains and fruits in the long run”.
“We expect to start seeing the fruits of these reforms right around the time of the election. That should be around 2026 and 2027. It is at that time people will start clapping for the party and the president”.
“It will be almost impossible for someone to come from the outside, particularly an outsider that has failed the country before; an outsider that cannot contain its own crisis, to think of defeating the incumbent. It will be very difficult. The APC and the president are very much aware of this expectation and shenanigans of the opposition”.
“But it is not to say that the party and the president are sleeping. No, they are strategising ahead. So, when we get to the bridge, we will see who have the strongest stride to cross it. And I assure you, the APC will not be found nothing. It will not be caught napping”.
