And that’s how we imported Big Brother Naija from South Africa

Nigeria prides itself as “the giant of Africa”. But a major Nigerian show, created for a Nigerian audience, holds in South Africa. And people are wondering why?

Organisers of Big Brother Naija (BBN)say this is why…

“The need to put out quality content whilst meeting timelines/deadlines is behind the decision to transmit Big Brother Naija to Nigerians from South Africa.

“We have a fully equipped house in South Africa which is used for the Big Brother shows. For the Voice, our approach was pretty much the same.

“The venue is already set up with all facilities required for the successful execution of the show; this means that we are able to achieve high production values whilst meeting tight timelines/deadlines and ensuring the show comes to our viewers on time, as planned, and with the same globally renowned quality.”

The show used to be called Big Brother Nigeria. In its first edition, held from March 5 to June 4, 2006, twelve housemates vied for a $100,000 prize money by performing various mental and physical tasks. At the end of a three-month stay in the house, Katung Aduwake merged winner.
