Anambra: Businessman goes blind after being flogged by masquerade

A businessman, identified as Ogechukwu Ogbogu, might never regain his sight after reportedly being flogged in his eyes by a masquerade.

Ogbogu had travelled to his hometown, with his wife and three children, for the yuletide celebration oblivious of the fate that would befall him, reports say.

The businessman, who sells drugs at head bridge market in Onitsha, reportedly fell victim to an annual oracle festival which involves masquerade displays in Osete community.

He was said to be driving, when he was stopped by the masquerade at Osete village in Umuchu, in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

One thing led to the other and he was whipped with a cane.

The cane reportedly landed in his eyes and he began to bleed profusely, prompting sympathisers to rush him to a hospital in Onitsha.
