Again, court denies Shi’ites leader, El-Zakzaky bail

Shi’ite Muslims leader in Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky has again been denied bail by a Kaduna High Court.

El-Zakzaky was arraigned amid heavy security for his bail application Wednesday morning.

The presiding judge, Justice Gideon Kurada, ruled that the IMN leader would be refused bail as he did not attach a medical report to the application.

El-Zakzaky and his wife will now remain in detention until January 22, 2019. The couple had been in detention since December 2015.

Shi’ite members embarked on a three-day march last week to demand their leader’s release. The march had resulted in a face-off with soldiers in which many of the members were killed and wounded.

A group in Iran had also threatened to “overthrow” the Nigerian government if he is not released.
