Gunmen attacked the American University in Kabul, the Afghan capital, killing at least thirteen people on Wednesday.
Seven of the dead victims were students of the university, police say.
Security forces also shot two attackers dead hours after the assault began with an explosion, the BBC reports.
During the attack, students and staff were trapped inside the university but police have declared it is over.
35 students and nine policemen were injured and about 750 students and staff rescued, Kabul police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi is quoted to have said.
No group has so far claimed responsibility.
