Accountant hangs self after stabbing 14 members of his family to death

An accountant stabbed 14 members of his own family to death, including his wife, children and parents, police in India have said.
Hasnin Anwar Warekar is believed to have drugged his wife, children and parents and then slit their throats at a party on Saturday evening. He then went on to hang himself.
Only his 21-year-old sister survived the attack, reports say.
India media reports that neighbours heard that accountant’s sister screaming for help some time after midnight following a family gathering, Saturday evening.
Warekar is said to either have laced the evening meal with a sedative or waited until his family had gone to bed before locking the doors and beginning the assault.
Police say details of the attack are still sketchy.
“Prima facie evidence suggests that the accused bolted all the doors of the house and murdered his family while they were asleep with a knife that we found near his body,” Ashutosh Dumbre, joint commission of Thane police said.
Speculations in the media have it that a property dispute sparked the killings.
On the contrary, Dumbre told ABP news channel that “there were no known financial troubles or disputes” that could have been the “trigger” for such an “extreme step”..
